A history of Blackjack It
can be said that blackjack is one of the most played card
games worldwide. This is a game that is not that difficult
to master but a certain level of persistence is required.
Although there are many generally accepted beliefs regarding
this game, its roots are not that well known.
18 th century – it is believed
that blackjack originated in French casinos where it
is known that similar versions of this game were paid.
For example, it is known that a game called "vingt-et-un" was
played there which means 21.
Mid 19 th century to about 1910 – in
some western states gambling is legal and blackjack finds
its way across the Atlantic as the French immigrate to
the United States. It did not reach Nevada at this time
since gambling was not legal in that state.
1931 – In this year the state of Nevada legalized gambling and blackjack
became one of the primary games played. It was first known as ‘21’ until
the casinos decided to entice players to bet by offering them ten times their
bet if they drew an ace of spades and one of the black jacks in the deck. From
this the game of ‘21’ became known as blackjack.
