Sports Betting Sites Offer Range of Bets on Super Bowl Action
While most football fans have by now placed their bets with sports betting sites on the result of the U.S. Super Bowl, a range of bets are still being made on the most unusual outcomes. According to columnist Jeff Haney, betting on propositions or “props” is more popular than ever and many Las Vegas sports betting sites are offering favorable odds on almost the unthinkable occurring. Among the most common props are total turnovers and overtime. Generally the odds on over/under fumbles of the ball made by both teams is 1 ½. Last year bets on fumbles operated at Hilton at over 1 ½ at even money and under 1 ½ at minus 130 ($1 won at the risk of $1.30). Interceptions by players of both teams are calculated on the number of overs and unders. The odds for both at the Hilton last year was 2 ½. Sports betting fans can also bet on the possibility of the final running into overtime. Odds are approximately 15 to 1 or 20 to 1 that this will eventuate, however this doesn’t stop many gamblers from laying bets known as ‘overlays.’ This allows them to bet against fairly favorable odds. Palm sports book allowed players last year to bet at minus-600 (win $1 if you risk $6). Top bets usually level out at 8 to 1 at most sites. Gamblers are also keen to bet on whether either team will score in the last two minutes of the first half. The odds are usually based on the total number of points both teams scores throughout the duration of the game. Next year’s Super Bowl scheduled for 4 February 2007 has already been predicted by both Las Vegas Hilton and Venetian sports books. The Hilton predicted the Colts at 5-2 will be the winners, followed by the Patriots, Chargers, Steelers, Bengals and Broncos. The Venetian bookmakers also listed Colts as favorites at 4 to 1, followed by the Patriots, Broncos, Bengals and Seahawks.
