The Hungarians love gambling and their passion for the same is well known. They are very enthusiastic about this game just as much as gamblers from other parts of Eastern Europe. Hungary has been trying hard to combat the evils of the economic crunch and online gambling has proven to be a lucrative industry that is contributing towards financial recovery of Hungary as a nation.
Of late gambling laws have become stringent and new laws are being introduced that aim to limit poker activity to only casinos. According to the new amendments, limits have been introduced with respect to locations from where the players can gamble; number of tables in poker clubs as per law is not supposed to exceed 10. The rules are tough and legislators are making sure that they are followed. This is not good news for the gambling business in the country. Even the tax has been set at 25% which is too high.
The senior representative of the Hungarian Poker Association, Gergely Tatar, expressed that the ruling government has executed the law to ensure that poker is kept out of the regular industries and that gambling takes place only in casinos and does not operate from any other venues.
The country is prohibiting online gambling to ensure that online gambling as an industry does not grow like any other industry. This is a huge blow to the potential online gambling market that could flourish in Hungary.
The Hungarian government considers online gambling as a huge competitor. So it is working towards limiting its growth and reach. It is depriving the nation of the comfort of gambling from home by prohibiting gambling outside casinos.
However, the European Union has been pressurizing Hungary to establish its gambling industry for foreign interests. Thus prominent poker players have sent requests for reconsidering the law in the interest of the economic progress of Hungary which is full of excellent poker players.
