Bodog Joins Reality Poker Television Market
A new show to be hosted by Bodog CEO Calvin Ayre promises a birds eye view into all aspects of the poker lifestyle. The six-part reality TV show offers contestants the chance to visit the gambling chief’s resort in Costa Rica, along with the weekly opportunity to compete against poker-playing celebrities and professionals. While the television series is devised to showcase the game of poker, other forms of entertainment will be provided by musicians signed to the Bodog label, along with information on Costa Rican travel opportunities. The show beings on April 15, 2006 and will be aired weekly on Saturdays at 11.00 pm eastern standard time. For CEO Calvin Ayre, the opportunity to further publicise Bodog and win legions of new poker fans is not to be missed. “Poker and television – combined with Bodog-style entertainment – will make for one heck of a show,” Ayre says. “This is our next step into the world of reality TV. We are on a mission to find the next poker star and eager to showcase the play hard aspects of the Bodog lifestyle.” Ayre expects a large number of poker players to apply for the show. In order to be eligible, interested players need only set up a Bodog account online and return a completed application form to the company. The format of the show follows one common to most reality television programs. 20 Bodog poker players along with 10 poker professionals and 10 celebrities will compete against each other each week in order to be eligible for the grand prize of US $500,000. Each episode will conclude with a poker game, in which the winner will take home $50,000 for his efforts while his competitors are eliminated. At the conclusion of the series, all six winners of the previous rounds will compete for the final grand prize.
