Helmuth headlines National Heads Up Poker Championship
On March 4 the 2006 National Heads Up Poker Championship will be the center of attention for poker fans all over the country. The three day event, which is scheduled to be held at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, will see last year’s winner Phil Helmuth return to defend his title against strong competition from some of the country’s most successful poker professionals. Helmuth won the championship last year at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas after beating off stiff competition from 63 of the best professional heads up poker players in the game. The 2005 event was broadcast by NBC in May and gained a wide television audience.
Among last year’s highlights was the epic finale in the last round of the tournament where Helmuth narrowly snatched his victory from former world champion Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, winning 2-1. Helmuth, also a world champion in his own right, will be hoping for a similar showdown this year to retain his championship title.
