Caribbean Nation Hosts Money Laundering Workshop
Antigua and Barbuda will play host to the local online gaming industry this week at a special training workshop for operators and regulators to address money laundering issues. A training workshop is also planned to discuss techniques and strategies for combating money laundering and related criminal activity in the online gaming industry.
Kay McDonald, Director of Gaming in the Financial Services Regulatory Commission, has stated that the workshop will encourage healthy participation from attendees and will provide a forum to review new international standards for regulating casinos and internet gaming operators. The event will also target the potential vulnerabilities and risks associated with the industry, and will focus on how to confront money laundering activity and organized crime. The workshop has gained the support of such recognized organizations such as the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy and the Financial Sector Reform and Strengthening Initiative. The event’s main sponsor is the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which will actively participate in the week-long program.
