Poker fans are busy preparing for this year’s World Poker Tour which will be held at the prestigious Bellagio Hotel Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The competition begins on April 5 with a series of two day no-limit hold’em tournaments featuring hundreds of poker players competing for the seats in the grand final on April 24.
Among the professionals competing in this year’s tournament are Mirage Poker Showdown winner Gavin Smith, PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure winner Steve Paul-Ambrose, and Legends champ Alex Kahaner. Other champions include the winner of Ultimatebet’s Aruba competition Freddie Deeb, L. A. Poker Classic champ Alan Goehring and Foxwood’s Nick Schulman.
Doug Dalton, Director of Poker Operations at Bellagio, says the company is anticipating that this year’s tournament will be even more successful than the last. “Bellagio is excited to host the WPT World Championship for the fourth consecutive year as the grand finale of the 5 Star World Poker Classic,” Dalton said. “The number of participants increases every tournament and the prize pools continue to set new highs.”
Last year’s champion Tuan Le will return to Las Vegas to defend his title, which he won after beating 452 other players to reach the final. His competitor Paul Maxfield won nearly $1.7 million U.S. dollars for coming in at second place, while Le himself took home a cool $2,856,150. In addition to the main prize, Le also received the World Poker Tour Championship trophy, a silver player and bracelet.
