'Poker Night Live' Comes to Scandinavian TV
Scandinavia’s television channel Viasat is where poker fans can now tune in to see Pokerzone's popular "Poker Night Live" show every night at 11pm. Under the terms of the agreement signed by Viasat and poker company Pokerzone, over six million Scandinavian homes will have access to the poker show. “Poker Night Live” has steadily grown in popularity since it was first launched in April. A new multi-table tournament permits over 100 poker fans to play at the same time, while single table tournaments and a range of cash games keep audiences coming back for more. An estimated 200,000 dedicated viewers watch the show each week, encouraging Pokerzone to develop local versions of the show for the Canadian, European and Scandinavian markets. Sam Orams, the creative director for the Scandinavian version of the show, has commented that local presenters will be used in order to give the program a home-grown atmosphere that poker fans appreciate. Pokerzone’s managing director, Jim Sibcy, has referred to the company’s new business interests in Scandinavia as “an obvious progression.” “These are very exciting times for Pokerzone,” Sibcy said. “We hope to see the same success for Poker Night Live in Europe as we have had in the UK and I am certain we will.” The popularity of “Poker Night Live” stems from the fact that it is the first poker show to successfully integrate internet action with television output. Professional poker commentators outline the game play while viewers participate live on the channel via the internet from their homes.
