Student Poker Tour Reaches United Kingdom
Following its successful nationwide student poker tournament in the U.S., online poker operator PokerRoom.com has announced plans to launch a second competition across the Atlantic. The first British Student Poker Tour will begin in Liverpool on February 20 and will travel through Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham, London and Bristol. The tour is especially designed to showcase those university students over the age of 18 who are already seasoned poker players, and to encourage newcomers to experience the popular game of poker. The tour concludes in Bristol on March 3rd. Patrick Selin, chief executive of PokerRoom.com has said that poker’s popularity has increased substantially on campuses both in the U.S and in the United Kingdom, and that students represent a vibrant and growing audience. "With the launch of the Student Poker Tour, we are developing a relationship with a previously untapped market.” Selin said. “We aim to show students that anybody can be a great Texas Hold'Em player given the tools and the know-how.” Thousands of students are expected to compete in the first stages of the tournament to determine their university’s top player. Online competitions will be held at PokerRoom.com, with the champion from each university facing off against his contemporaries in the final. Ten players will compete on the March 11 final for a range of exciting prizes, including the grand prize of a brand new sports car valued at 15,000 pounds sterling.
