Despite the U.S. government’s prohibition on internet gaming, it appears as if the current legislation is easy to operate around. New poker company Arctic Star announced the launch of its online poker site this week, but instead of its array of games, its software provider’s origins made the limelight.
The company had previously announced that its new poker site was to be powered by Swedish software gaming firms DQE AB and 3D Internet Games AB. However, research conducted on DQE has revealed that its parent company is none other than U.S. utilities company Duquesne Light Company. A statement for Duquesne refers to the firm as a "leader in the transmission and distribution of electric energy, offering superior customer service and reliability to more than half a million customers in southwestern Pennsylvania."
 
Arctic Star’s managing director, William Forsman, has stated that the company will target mostly casino players from northern Sweden, where the game of online poker is enjoying unprecedented popularity. Forsman also highlighted his enthusiasm in working with DQE. “We are optimistic on our decision to work with DQE,” he said. “Through our channels we have access to active poker players, most in northern Sweden. We think 3D will become the standard for the world’s poker sites over the coming years.”
DQE is relatively new to the online gambling world but has recently developed and sold blackjack and poker software to online casino site Vegas 007. Its deal with Arctic Star will no doubt bring the software firm valuable publicity, albeit not entirely for its range of gaming products.
