New Look Duplicate Poker Unveiled in Tulsa
The Oklahoma State Championships held at the Cherokee Casino in Tulsa this week provided the perfect backdrop for the display of a new version of poker. Duplicate Poker is the latest variation on the popular poker pastime. The game gets its moniker from the set-up of multiple poker tables, all featuring the same card set-up including hole cards, turn, river and duplicate flop. The aim of Duplicate Poker is to reduce the chance element in poker while boosting the skill aspect. Players who participate in Duplicate Poker are competing not only against their opponents at the same table, but against those at all other tables playing in the same position. All participants start out with identical cards and chips and the points they accrue from making poker hands are recorded and compared. Several of poker's big names turned out to support the new concept on display at the Oklahoma State Championships this week. Linda Johnson, Scotty Nguyen and Chip Reese all attended, along with seven other professional poker stars. Participants in Duplicate Poker competed against nine other players playing in the same position at different tables. The total number of participants was 100 at ten tables. Poker fans keen to try out Duplicate Poker for themselves can play for free at e-Poker USA. Advocates of the new style are hopeful that it could create healthy debate amongst legislators attempting to outlaw poker matches. This is due to the added skill factor in Duplicate Poker, which could potentially put it outside the realms of legislation against other forms of poker.
