Easter Weekend is Irish Poker Weekend
350 international poker players faced off in Dublin during the Easter break to compete in the Paddy Power Poker Irish Open 2006 Tournament. Its popularity also made the event accessible for couch potato fans after Sky Sports 2 decided to screen the competition live at 9.30 pm on Monday April 17.
More than 10,000 poker fans participated in the initial online rounds of the competition, along with thousands of Irish fans via live satellite. The field was eventually whittled down to approximately 350 of the biggest names in Irish and European poker. The competition was the first Irish poker event ever to be televised and was filmed in Dublin before a live celebrity-packed audience. At the final table, six winning players competed for over one million euros. A further 50,000 euros was subsequently added to the total prize pool by the event’s main sponsor.
