Israelis are gambling more than ever, according to Globes, one of the country’s leading local business publications. In a recent Globes report, statistics from a survey by the Credit Information Association revealed that Israelis spend 10 billion shekels a year annually on gambling activities. Israeli gamblers have also overtaken American and European gambling fans in terms of what they spend on their favorite past time per capita.
According to the Credit Information Association, American gamblers spend an average of $250 each on gambling per year, while Europeans spend an average of $135 a year. However Israelis spend an average $440 a year.
The typical Israeli gambler also has a unique profile. He is generally an average income earner aged between 40-60 years and regularly buys Lotto tickets or tickets to regular lottery draws. He may participate in Toto sports betting events, scratch card lottery card draws and Chance lottery events. He is more likely to be a city dweller and is 30 percent more likely to participate in regular gambling events if aged between 16 and 35 years.
From the 10 billion shekels spent by Israelis on gambling, 1.5 billion is spent on legal gambling events wagered on via cellular phones and the internet. 3.5 billion shekels is spent on the Lotto regular lottery draw and on Toto sports betting tickets.  The remainder of the amount is spent each year on both local and international gambling activities deemed illegal by the Israeli government.
