A new poker website developed by Boss Media on behalf of state funded Swedish Games Corporation has been launched this week. The site is the first government funded gambling venture in Sweden, and if successful, could pave the way for many more governments eager to benefit from the lucrative taxation revenues online gaming ventures can provide.
The website, known as Svenka Spel, was approved by the government in November 2005 and is now the first state owned gambling site of its kind in Sweden. Shortly after the government’s approval, developers began work on the site with the intention of creating a top class poker site with the highest levels of reliability and security.
President of Boss Media, Johan Berg, confirmed at the launch of Svenka Spel that additional gaming companies are being developed in light of the Swedish government’s ground-breaking decision. "There are more companies in the starting blocks and they are well aware of our role in the development of this poker site and how important it is that the system supplier is the right one,” Berg said. "Responsible gaming is a critical factor for the government-owned licensed gaming companies. Our solution is clearly more advanced that what is available on the market today because it creates greater security for the end-users as well as for the gaming company since they gain increased control of the gaming operations."
Currently 140 government owned gambling firms exist under World Lottery Association jurisdiction; however Svenka Spel is one of the first online.
