New Financial Ombudsman to Join Gibraltar Government
According to international media reports this week, the government of Gibraltar is preparing to create a new role to protect consumers, especially those that participate in online gambling activity.
The post of Ombudsman will be tasked with monitoring financial services and the gambling industry that Gibraltar is renowed for.
While the full title of the position is yet to be announced, sources report that the announcement was made on Thursday at a meeting of Gibraltar's parliament. The subject was part of an exchange between government opposition MP Fabian Picardo and government minister Peter Caruana. Caruana also revealed that the full remit of the post will cover additional areas of consumer interest.
