Online Gambling in France May Soon Experience a Breakthrough
Is it possible that there may soon be some form of positive change in the monopolistic approach of the French, to gambling? This may be so since it was recently reported by the French press that the Sarkozy administration is planning to allow for a much more liberal approach to the French online gambling scene. It is reported by the media that the administration is planning for a much more open and competitive regulatory system.
France already has received warnings of protectionism from the European Union's enforcement body and is presently involved in comprehensive talks with European Commission officials with regard to its protectionist policies. The present change in the presidency might represented a long needed catalyst for genuine change, change that would bring France in line with and in compliance to the established requirements of the European Union as regards the free passage of trade and services between EU member nations.
There has not yet been any comments on the part of the European Commission as regards these media reports. The head of the Partouche casino group, Patrick Partouche, however, welcomed the news. He did caution however, that the rard legislation could still take some time to be passed and enacted. This is likely he believes because the French monopoly Francaise des Jeux would most likely attempt to delay the move as long as possible.
