Hardy Takes Home $200,000 at Party Poker Open 3 Tournament
It was a clash of the titans and a chance to see some familiar faces in this year's Party Poker Open 3 Tournament held in London recently. In 2005, the final was hammered out between poker professionals Anthony "The Booky" Hardy and Ian Woodley, with Woodley claiming victory on that occasion. However, this year, Hardy claimed the winner's prize of $200,000, beating a starting line up of 72 to do so. Woodley originally was picked as the tournament's favorite and owned 859,000 of the 1.2 million chips going into the last rounds. But Hardy was not to be outdone. "When it was just Ian, and I kept telling him I would win, it was sweet revenge for when he beat me in the Poker Den a couple years ago," the champion said. "It is a dream to win the tournament. I'm so chuffed. I didn't hit many cards in the semi-finals or finals, but I just continued to hang in there."
Hardy has enjoyed an illustrious eight year career, which has been topped by his recent win. For Woodley fans though, the second place winner hardly left empty-handed after pocketing $100,000 for his efforts. Both players started the competition against some formidable opponents including Juha Helppi, Liz Lieu, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, and Thomas Wahlroos.
