Yahoo and Google Retain Advertising Ban on Gambling Services
According to reports in the New Media Age, the search engine Google is retaining its ban on online gambling advertisements. The news follows the attempts of Sky in the UK, which has been attempting to sidestep the ban by directing customers to its new Sky Poker TV channel from several well-known search engines. While Sky's advertisement adheres to Google's stipulations on banning gamblers from websites where real money gambling can take place, the ad does sport a picture depicting a live gambling situation.
Following Google's tough stance on the promotion of gambling, Yahoo has also contacted some of its advertisers with the following warning: "Existing advertisements are currently being reviewed for compliance and we expect this process to be complete by mid June. If your advertisement is found to be non-compliant you will be notified by email and it will be suspended until the necessary changes are made."
The statement went on to say that among the banned advertisements will be “...advertisements that contain invitations to play, any mention of money (eg. GNB 1 000 jackpot), or any offers or incentives to take part in gaming (eg. bonus or benefit)."
