Ownership Change in the North American Arm of the Bodog Group
Bodog may be a strange name for an online casino, but its many loyal customers will tell you that it provides great fun and is highly reliable. The North American online gambling operation of the Bodog Group was acquired from founder Calvin Ayre by Alwyn Morris of the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group.
Morris has a few distinct credits to his name and has been recognized by the Canadian Government for his good work with Aboriginal Youth in the area of alcohol and drug abuse. The prestigious Order of Canada, the highest civilian honor in Canada, was bestowed on him in 1985. Born in 1957, Morris is an Olympic Champion Sprint Canoer winning a gold and a bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. As far as a role model for Aboriginal Youth is concerned Mr. Morris is perfect. Morris was a principal advisor to the Chief and Council of the Mohawk Nation in the negotiations between the Mohawk Council and the Government of Quebec with regard to the regulation of online gambling. Morris decided to establish a platform for online gambling and being an independent sort of person he initially wanted to develop his own online casino brand. But when he met Ayre, the owner of Bodog, who was offering his company up for sale Morris saw a good deal. He decided to buy the established brand for North America. He is not involved with the European operations or with the newly set up Asian operations of Bodog or with the other entertainment brands that Bodog offers.
“We manage the product development, maintain the infrastructure, run customer service, marketing and so on,” says Morris. When talking about his current operation Morris is very clear as to what he wants from Bodog in the long run. Improvement in user experience, reduction in barriers to entry and considerably more digital entertainment are among the things Morris would like to see. Specifically there are plans to update the casino lobby and to add new and exciting games along with tournaments, contests and promotions. Morris’s objective is to give players greater opportunity to win “great bonuses and prizes”.
