Atlantic Lottery Corporation Causes Concern
Listeners to Newfoundland, Canada's VOCM radio station this week heard that a potential storm is brewing between the Canadian government and the Opposition concerning the government's promotion of gambling services. According to Lorraine Michael, the Opposition is concerned about the blatant advertizing and promotion of gambling by the government that appears on its online lottery and iBingo site. Atlantic Lottery Corporation is housing the site on its Alc.ca site with the approval of four of the country's provincial governments.
In her radio interview, Michael referred to the government's position as “counter productive” and questioned whether the site's impact had been sufficiently examined. She contrasted the provincial government's reduction of VLT's and promotion of responsible gambling with the promotion of iBingo from the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. Currently, the Alc.ca site offers gamblers a variety of bingo and lottery type games. These can be downloaded from the organization's website for a charge of $3 each. Boss Media is the software firm in charge of the games, of which Eldorado, Gong, Mini-Golf and Hold-em Poker are just some.
