Sports betting firm Betfair has recently become the first gambling operator to host a poker tournament in Singapore. In association with Capital Events, the firm will offer a prize pool of $2 million for the event scheduled for November, which has been dubbed the Betfair Asian Poker Tour.
A range of professional poker players are expected to attend the event, to test their luck for the $2 million prize. Amateur players will also have the chance to attend through qualifying tournaments at Betfair’s online gaming site.
The firm’s head of poker, Ben Fried, says that the tournament is an ideal opportunity to raise Betfair’s profile in Asia and to gain valuable experience through partnerships with local firms who understand the regulatory restrictions of working in the region.

“Singapore is an ideal place to host an event of this magnitude and we’re delighted to be given the chance to do it,” Fried said. “It’s a wonderful tourist destination as well as a hub of activity for the region. In Singapore we will put on a memorable poker event as well as give our players the chance to experience Singapore.”
