888 On Target to Announce Half Year Results
888 Holdings is on target to announce results that will meet the firm’s predictions, according to a recent statement. The Gibraltar-based company said that it remains "confident" about its prospects for the rest of the year and will announce its interim half year results on September 10. Recently, the group broke off talks with Ladbrokes after the British gambling empire expressed an interest in purchasing 888. Talks continued for six months until fears that potential US legal liabilities could adversely affect the deal. After talks were terminated, 888’s chief executive Gigi Levi announced that the firm would be looking to make acquisitions of its own in the near future. In April, 888 Holdings purchased Globalcom’s online bingo business for $43 million.
The firm also announced last month that it has entered into discussions with US legal authorities to find out how threat of possible action against it can be averted. However, no news of the talks was given in the firm’s trading update made on Thursday.
Several online gaming firms have struggled to reap profits since the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) came into force last October. The legislation bans financial transactions from American casino players to offshore online gambling firms. While many firms had already started to diversify their services and move in to new markets, 888 was hit hard, losing 55 percent of its annual revenue that it had relied on American fans to provide.
