Youngster Wins Bellagio Cup Championship

Shannon Shorr is one student unphased by tuition fees this year. The 21-year-old civil engineering student from Albama has pocketed over one million dollars since he embarked on his career as a professional poker player and added a cool $960,000 from his win at the Bellagio in Las Vegas last week.

After finishing in 577th place at this year’s World Series of Poker Championships, Shorr decided to return to his studies at the University of Alabama. However, given his recent win, the young champ’s plans may be changing. His name has already been mentioned in connection with the illustrious Player of the Year title after his total winnings for 2006 surpassed the one million dollar mark. Shorr also made it onto Cardplayer’s Professional Poker Player of the Year Contest, coming in at third place with only 63 points separating him from Phil Helmuth Jr.

Shorr joins fellow 21-year-old Jeff Madsen as one of the poker industry’s most promising young stars. Madsen pocketed over 1.5 million in the World Series of Poker last week after he made it to four final tables and claimed two winner’s bracelets.
