Ladbrokes' Poker Shows Falling Trends in Interim Report
Ladbrokes, one of the United Kingdom's largest and most well-known gambling enterprises, released its interim results last week. The end of June figures have disappointed investors and shown that the firm's poker operations have suffered in recent months due to increased competition in Europe.
According to the results, Ladbroke's poker revenues show a decline of 2.7 million pounds. Active player registrations have fallen 15 percent to 422,000.
While these figures have alarmed investors, Ladbrokes' chief executive Christopher Bell was quick to point out that other areas of the firm's online business has performed to expectation. Bell said that strong growth in the firm's online sportsbook and gaming products makes up for its poor poker revenues. He also told media that 12 Ladbrokes shops are now operational in the lucrative Italian market.
The firm's gaming revenue is currently 7.5 million pounds, an increase of 50 percent on the same quarter last year. Online sportsbook revenue has risen 13.9 percent and the net revenue from its casino operations has increased 14.4 percent to 22.2 million pounds.
Ladbroke's profit before taxation has risen from 155 million pounds to 161 million, while gross win revenue has increased from 523 million to 624 million pounds. General operating profit continues to grow. June's figures stand at 195 million compared to 151 million recorded for the same period last year.
