Pennsylvania surpasses Nevada in Gambling Tax Revenues
This news was released at almost the same time the new gambling laws went into effect allowing Pennsylvanian Casinos to offer table games. This new law was already passed at the start of 2010, but it has taken until recently to get everything in place to actually start offering the new casino games.
The end of the fiscal year is on the last day in June, and at that time Pennsylvanian Casinos have paid more than $1 billion in taxes, while Nevada halted at $878 million, which makes it the number three State in the country in terms of gambling tax revenues. It should be noted that there is a difference between tax revenues from gambling and overall gambling revenue.
Pennsylvanian tax rates for gambling are relatively high with 55% with all casinos paying over half of their profits in taxes to the state. Nevada however has more casinos, but only a tax rate of 8%, which may account for the difference.
While in Pennsylvania gambling taxes remain at this high rate, other industries in the states saw their taxes being decreased, while the revenues from gambling are also put to good use in other areas where the State's budgets were falling short.
