This year’s winner of the Party Poker.com World Open II championships in held this week in London is none other than Pippa Flanders. The mother of two picked up a cool $200,000 for her efforts after beating off stiff competition from 70 of the world’s top poker players. Flanders also had a point to prove, being one of only two women in the starting lineup.

Flanders only started playing poker professionally in 2002. Poker fans keen to tune into the televised event on UK’s Channel 5 later in the year will see Flanders go up against some of the poker world’s most respected players, including Tony Guoga, Marc Goodwin, Tony Bloom and last year's champion Lee Nelson.

A Party Poker spokesperson was quick to praise Flanders efforts. “It's really exciting that Pippa's victory is the first great breakthrough for European women in poker and demonstrates the rise of women champions around the world in open poker tournaments,” he said. “This has been an absolutely amazing finish to a great Party Poker.com World Open.”
Flanders admitted finding her win unbelievable. “To have been one of only two women who entered amongst over 70 entrants and to have won it is simply unbelievable and wonderful. Go girls,” she said. “I had a fantastic time playing the game and it was such a wonderful ending that I had always hoped for but never expected. I still can't believe I beat all those top names to the title. It really is a dream come true.”
