Mahjong is a fast-growing popular game, predicted to be one of the largest selling market segments in the online gambling world over the next five years. As a result, it seems nearly every gaming firm is rushing to add the popular Chinese pastime to its product range. The latest to do so is Vegas Partner Lounge group, which is releasing its newly licensed Mahjong Mania software on 28Mahjong.com.
Mahjong Mania’s creator, software giant Microgaming has already announced that it plans to offer gaming operators four new games each month. According to the firm’s chief executive officer, Roger Raatgever, localization is considered crucial to Microgaming’s success in the new Asian market.
“Key to that is cutting edge software that offers a dependable, rich gaming experience for experienced and novice payers alike,” Raatgever commented. “Microgaming has an unparalleled ability to explore new boundaries for our operators in global online gaming. We are confident that it will provide the estimated 1 billion Mahjong players worldwide with the first aggregate online version of the most widely played game in the world. This is just the beginning.”
Microgaming’s Mahjong product was developed in tandem with Dynasty Gaming’s subsidiary Mahjong Mania. The game is the oldest yet to make it to the cutting edge world of online gambling. Commonly thought to have been developed by Confucius, the game that involves 136-152 tiles offers today’s Mahjong fans all the excitement of the old game but with an added modern-day twist.
Mahjong Mania’s president, Adriaan Brink, also commented on the product’s release, echoing Raatgever’s sentiment about capitalizing on the incredible growth associated with the Asian market. “Our agreement with Microgaming enables us to efficiently and credibly create relationships with a large number of well established and successful casino operators, Vegas Partners and 28Mahjong being the first,” Brink said. “We recognize the importance of moving quickly in this market and we believe our continuing link with Microgaming will be critical in achieving early and broad market penetration.”
