Poker Raid in North Carolina.
Recently North Carolinian authorities issued a statement that playing poker at high stakes will not be tolerated, not even in their residents homes!
As a result the Alcohol Law Enforcement raised a poker game last Thursday. As a result 8 people were taken in custody, on the notion that playing poker for large amounts of money is illegal according to state legislation.
The raid was executed after Alcohol Law Enforcement received many complaints regarding the illegal poker games. During the raid all money, chips and other attributes of the poker games were confiscated.
It still remains unclear what kind of gaming was going on at the location, and if it was considered to be a tournament or single game. In any event, chances are that the Poker Players Alliance(PPA) will take on the case.
The PPA has been successful in getting cases similar to this one thrown out of court by arguing poker is a game of skill and not merely a game of chance. Ultimately it will be up to a judge to rule on the issue
