Neteller Issues New Statement Regarding Online Gambling Law
On Oct 12th, a few days after the approval of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, Neteller – the market leader in transferring funds between player account and the online casinos themselves, issued a statement saying that business was going as usual although they mentioned that they will “monitor the progress of the Act and likely resultant regulations”.
Today, Neteller issued a new statement, one that can be interpreted as a more cautious one “NETeller, a company registered outside the US, will comply with the Act and its related regulations as if it were subject to the Act's jurisdiction. This action is intended to ensure that the Company is able to continue to operate with the support of its principal commercial partners and to protect its shareholders, business partners, employees and reputation."
This statement seems to imply that Neteller could follow suit on other publicly traded online gambling businesses who decided to cut their ties with U.S customers. A big part of Neteller’s revenue comes from non gambling businesses, so it is expected of it to try and keep at least that part of their business safe and secure.
Although we will have to wait for end of the 270 days period to see what are the real consequences of the new gambling law on the online casino industry Neteller has made it clear that “The funds of US-resident customers are held in trust accounts and will be available for withdrawal, on demand. The ability to withdraw funds will exist regardless of the customer's location or ability to transfer to any site."
