Another move to exploit the online horseracing carve-out
Betting on horse races is so far an untapped source of revenues from mobile phone bettors, even though mobile gambling is not anything new. According to Newsday, The New York Racing Association is looking to change that and has plans to start using a new application called mWager to allow Windows Mobile users to place race bets on their cellphones.
All technical aspects must first be approved by the state Racing and Wagering Board and if this is successful, users will have access to information on the horse they are betting on, its owner, its trainer and the odds for it to win. The whole procedure will be PIN protected to safeguard anyone who has their handset stolen.
mWager claims this new technology could well pave the way for a similar service in other markets, if the release is successful.
