Online Gambling Veteran Gets Chairman's Spot
Nigel Payne, one of the online gambling industry's most experienced and a respected executive has accepted the position of non-executive chairman of the board at skill games developer and network GameAccount. GameAccount CEO Kevin Dale said, “We’re delighted to have Nigel on board. His experience and knowledge of the industry is second to none and we’re looking forward to working closely with him over the coming months.” In reply, Payne said, “I’m thrilled to be working with one of the largest gaming communities in the world. These are exciting times for the gaming industry.” Formerly Group Chief Executive at Sportingbet.com, Payne joins a team of shareholders that includes Betfair founder Andrew Black, Dermot Desmond and the Smurfit family. Payne, originally joined Sportingbet in 2000 as Group Finance Director and was appointed Group Chief Executive the following year. He held this post through 2006, guiding the company through numerous acquisitions and a listing on the London Stock Exchange before stepping down in favor of current boss Andrew McIver. GameAccount is based in London, United Kingdom and is also licensed by the UK’s Gambling Commission to operate online games for real money prizes.
