There are a lot of people these days who are finding that an easy way to take a break and relax a little is to connect to the internet and play a few online games. There are many who feel frustrated when they do not have access to the net or are otherwise unable to log on. Is this a case of simply enjoying the opportunity to play at gambling at various games online or is their actually an addiction involved here? The latest research studies are saying that both cases might be true. All over the world there are now researchers who are doing enormous studies on the possible effects that online gambling may be having on today’s young people. There are those experts however, who act as advisors to the online gambling industry who are warning that the present research studies might be flawed by the way they are being carried out.

The real question is whether or not gambling online is more of a social habit than anything else in comparison. For example, it can be argued that the website Facebook has in a way encouraged online poker, and there are a good deal of other social networking companies of this type that have attempted to take advantage of the interest that people seem to be exhibiting in online poker as it is played on the Internet. There is at least one valuable lesson that we can learn from experience, and that is that when something is working everyone is happy but when it is not working nobody is. With the Internet however, life seems to be different. When you are online it seems like every is connected and when many people seem to be enjoying themselves all at the same time, the world seems to be a better place in which to live.

But it’s at this point that the researchers are stepping in and telling us that online gambling has quickly become a major college pastime for young men especially, and that this is becoming a visible trend do to the thrill that young people seem to be experiencing when they see themselves at succeeding at something. They warn that a whole generation is being turned by the media in all sorts of forms, to encourage young people to seek the thrill of success that seems to be available through the internet. Even in the past it was common for the media to employ that old sports slogan on Television sporting events, - “the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat.”

It is possible that these experts are simply making something out of nothing but nevertheless, at the same time it makes good sense to stay aware of how this problem might be growing and how it might be developing, especially among the youth, among those who are playing for money on the internet. If this were to become a real obsession leading to possible financial difficulties, the university administrators cannot ignore or turn a blind eye to this issue of online gambling and the possibility of gambling addictions that might accompany online gambling.

These possibilities stand as serious concerns for both parents and those who decide on the laws. At the same time it would be very difficult to remove from human behavior that element of social networking that makes us want to stay connected with each other. We should employ the research on that is available with regard to online gambling to help keep us informed as to the possible trends that might be developing, so that we will be able to deal with any possible problems in the future. It is therefore that these findings continue to be made available so that we will be able to acquire the necessary knowledge and information to improve things when necessary.
