Casino Royale Action to Appeal to Royals?
888.com is well-known for its clever and highly effective marketing campaigns. But one that appeals even to the royal family? Is such a campaign possible? The answer is yes, according to 888’s marketing team, who are using the hype of Casino Royale, the latest James Bond film, to appeal to the fun-loving side of the royal family. The Gibraltar-based online casino and poker room operator is planning a unique charity based bid designed to boost the group’s publicity by encouraging the royal family to join in a charity poker event. According to organizers, the event sees the United Kingdom’s Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice and Peter and Zara Phillips compete against each other in one game of Texas Hold’em poker. However, 888.com is yet to announce whether or not the individuals concerned have agreed to participate in the event. The firm’s Head of Offline Marketing, Matt Robinson, announced plans for the charity event, saying “Royalty and card playing are intrinsically linked in history. With the advent of the new Bond film it seems only logical to stage a royal poker event in the name of charity.” The tournament would provide over one million British pounds sterling; 600,000 of which would be donated by the winner to a charity of his or her choice. The remaining competitors would also get to donate 100,000 to their chosen charities.
The event is designed to attract the royals by following on from the valuable work of their parents and to boost the profile of the younger generation in being supportive of charitable causes.
