Online Gambling Portal Reports Sportsbook Raid
According to popular internet gambling portal Gambling911, an operation carried out by Queens District Attorney staff in New York City has resulted in charges being laid against 32 individuals associated with operating an online sportsbook. While the news was broken on the online gambling site, full confirmation of the arrests and information about the operation were expected to be announced by the Queens District Attorney’s office in a press conference on Wednesday.
Unconfirmed sources told Gambling911 that wire taps were used to track the agents, which moved mainly between Las Vegas and New York. One of those prosecuted had already had $300,000 confiscated after law enforcement authorities obtained search warrants against the online sports-betting operator.
The last high profile bust of online gambling operations was directly responsible for the arrest of David Carruthers, then chief executive of BetonSports in July.
