At the weekend, following industry software developer Playtech’s statement to the London stock exchange, there was significant speculation among industry observers regarding the identity of a anonymous Asian-facing online gambling licensee.

Playtech made clear in its statement that it has signed up with what it has described as an Asian-facing licensee called “significant”. But due to “reasons of confidentiality,” Playtech was not yet ready to make known however, the identity of the mystery company. 

According to its statement Playtech is to provide the not identified operator with new peer-to-peer games that are Asian-focused, and says that the latest licensee has a very intense and diversified existence in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to Playtech, this new contract is very important to the future profitability of the firm, and the company has made known that it is projected to emerge with enhanced earnings during the second quarter of 2008.

Mor Weizer , who is the CEO of Playtech, has said that this move will result in a significant new business success for Playtech and that it is coming after extended contract negotiations with the licensee. Weizer also said that the client’s large client base will turn it into a very meaningful addition to the Playtech group.

Playtech’s position as the market leader is to be strengthened by the additional tools and features that Playtech is developing for this operator’s market-leading position within the broad based Asia-Pacific market, says Weizer. Weizer adds that the new licensee has extensive experience and market grasp and that Playtech foresees even additional benefits for Playtech, particularly with regard to the company’s new Asia-facing games which will start to be distributed during the next two business quarters.”
