Poker fans from all over the U.S. including Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Florida, Texas, Nevada, Washington and California have all competed in this year’s River Rock Casino’s Texas Holdem Tournament.  According to the firm’s Vice President of Casino Gaming, Bryan Lynch, the response the competition received from spectators and player’s was “truly remarkable.”
Arguably more remarkable though was the performance of Canadian poker fan David Ross White in beating off stiff competition from some of the poker world’s best-known players. The British Columbian spent three days at the River Rock Casino near Vancouver International Airport, testing his skills against 784 other poker fans before being awarded the coveted title and top prize of $600,000 and gold watch.
Other players who performed well in the River Rock tournament included Alaska’s Derrick Law, who picked up $290,000 for his efforts when he took second place. Some well-known faces included Gavin Smith, who finished 27th, Johnny Chan and Brad “Yukon” Booth.
However, after 32 hours of play, there was little doubt amongst spectators and players alike that the River Rock Texas Holdem event belonged to David Ross White. “I feel fantastic,” the winner told media. “I think we’ll use this money to pay off some debt and go on a holiday. We’re going to have a great time!”
