“British Gov't to Set Up Gambling Commission”
Despite a lot of doubts from industry
analysts, the British Parliament has passed the Gambling
Bill. The Bill was designed to update and improve Britain’s outmoded gaming regulations,
which scarcely addressed the online gambling industry. While
the Bill will set up a commission that regulates all of Britain’s
gambling industry, the focus of the new legislation will,
in fact, be online gambling, which has seen a phenomenal
growth in interest in the last few years.
According to department spokesman, Anthony
Wright, the commission, while unable to regulate online casinos
outside of Britain, will be able to “carry out investigations, bring about
prosecutions, levy fines, and void bets they consider unfair”.
The commission is to be comprised of approximately 100 investigators
assigned to regulate the industry and should be operational
within a few months.
